I get to go Sydney now and then on business trips and I usually ask if Nite wants to tag along. When she tags along we try to squeeze in a day trip of some sort. I have always wanted to go Jenolan Caves since I set eyes on it during my research for family visit in 2013 (my God time flies). As Nite can tell you it was notoriously hard to get a day tour that only covers Jenolan Caves and the special caves that I wanted to go namely the Jubilee Cave. Not saying the mainstream caves aren't worth visiting but I am not going 3 hours up just to see a cave that has the same features as the one back hometown. Yes I grew up in a valley and surrounded by limestone caves.
So, in the end, the best way is to drive up and Nite manage to find rather cheap rental from vroomvroom. I was a bit hesitant at first when I saw the little cherub but it has power and a host of automation that it took us awhile to figure out how to drive it. Nite was tasked to crash read the help manual and digest it. It was another half hour before we are on our way. Now if you are driving up and intend to use GPS,
The River Cave although not my first choice, is still very spectacular. It is like walking into Mother's nature jewelry case. I reckon I spend half the time with my jaw dropped. While almost everything in there is a wonder, there are a couple of crowning formations such as the ice cream cone,
The Olympic Torch and the shale (head over to Nite's blog to see it). You are not allowed to use flash due to the delicate nature of the cave environment but I doubt my camera phone can do any better - everything looks rather blurry. At times like this a proper DSLR camera like the one Nite brought a long, do wonders to capture these sights. Follow the link (on top) to see some of the better photos taken including the underground river that is the namesake of the this tour.
The photos also can't show you the magnitude of these formations. Seriously you have to be there to know what I am talking about. I could literally spend a few days in Jenolan Caves just to go through all the special caves.
I would love to come back here again to do the Jubilee tour which only admits 10 people at any one time and only 1 tour a week.

- If you are using your phone make sure it is Telstra. Nothing else works or you will get lots of GPS signal lost.
- If you are using a normal GPS unit, you are good.
- If you are using 1 or 2, trust your GPS and not the highway naming system of NSW. Route 7 can come after 11, so trust your GPS, it knows where to go.
- If you are neither the above, give the reception a call, they give very good directions which coincide with GPS.
